Turmeric for your face?

I love using the goodness of plants and food to feed my skin, and I think you will love our antioxidant face cleanser/mask, GLOW, it’s secret ingredients? Turmeric!

Well, lets start with the facts. It’s an anti-oxidant, it’s anti-bacterial and it’s anti-inflammatory!

Research has shown that Turmeric contains potent antioxidants that are known to protect cells against free radicals and fight the signs of aging, and a study from 2010 found in The Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology* showed that Curcumin (the compound that gives turmeric it’s bright colour) could be a useful anti-aging substance.

In 2012 researchers discovered that using Curcumin patches on wounds not only improved healing time, but it also helped the skin repair itself by encouraging the production of collagen.

Anti-aging is good, anything else?

Ok, so its FULL of antioxidants, so is green tea. What else has it been shown to help with?

Here is a few of the skin benefits of Turmeric:

  • ACNE – Turmeric reduces sebum, excess sebum causes breakouts. Control the oil, control the breakouts
  • AGE SPOTS – Too much Melanin being produced in one area creates age spots, Turmeric seems to block the proteins that increase the production of Melanin, helping to reduce age spots
  • ECZEMA and PSORIASIS – Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties help reduce redness and inflammation in skin, helping to ease skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis
  • WOUND HEALING – Turmeric was used throughout history as a natural wound healer, and recent studies have proved it is just as effective as honey

If you are a fan of making your own face masks, then sprinkle a little turmeric to add to the benefits.

Will it turn my skin yellow?

You want your skin to glow, but not look like an oompa lumpa right?

Don’t worry, if you use pure, organic Turmeric it won’t stain your face! Don’t leave the masks on for long, 5-10 minutes is plenty, and make sure you don’t use turmeric with artificial colouring or dyes!! Then you will have an orange face!

“(Turmeric) keeps skin soft and smooth, makes it glow, tackles acne and helps bust hyper-pigmentation. Turmeric paste is also prescribed in Indian medicine for various skincare issues, like puffiness, wrinkles and eczema…”
